GOD IS GOOD! Our God challenges each of us to serve others in our own, unique way. Each of us has our own call to service which we call our vocation. In the 1950s, it seemed to me that my call was to serve through the priesthood. Little did I know at the time that I would serve as priest during a period of great change in the Church, a time of growth for the Church which challenged me to grow.
I was ordained in 1969, just four years after the Second Vatican Council issued its decree about the Church in the Modern World. The Church was changing; the people were challenged to adapt to this changing way of being God’s people on earth; and I was changing in order to keep up with those people. I feel it a privilege to be part of this Church as we all move under the leadership of the Spirit.
During the years after ordination, I had the opportunity to serve in a variety of ministries: teaching, administration, pastoral and research. Each has its own asceticism, its different way of testing one’s spiritual strength. And all of them were changing.
Now, in retirement, my work is largely sacramental with time for reflection on more than 50 years of experiences I have had helping people and myself experience and understand how the Spirit is active in our changing, growing Church and in our spirituality.
THANKS BE TO GOD!
