Jan. 22, 2015 - Students from Jesuit high schools and universities gathered in the nation’s capital to mark the 42nd anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion. Over 500 students packed into St. Aloysius Church on the campus of Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., for the annual Jesuit Mass and Rally for Life.

Dec. 28, 2014 — After a life of dedicated service to the Church and the Society of Jesus, Jesuit Archbishop Giuseppe Pittau died at age 86 in Tokyo on Dec. 26.

In Memoriam
Brother Gebhard R.M. Frohlich died Jan. 17, 2015, in Grand Coteau, La., after 50 years as a Jesuit. He taught art at Loyola University New Orleans for over 40 years.

Fr. Andrew “Andy” P. Whitman died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2015 at a hospital in Lafayette, La. The Jesuit mathematician taught, did research and helped found the Clavius Group.

Fr. A. Gerard Fineran, a missionary in Brazil for 42 years, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014 in Grand Coteau, La. He was 94 years old, a Jesuit for 77 years and a priest for 64 years.

Jesuit Parishes and Retreat Centers
There are 66 Jesuit parishes and 22 retreat centers in the United States. Jesuit parishes are situated in inner cities, suburbs, rural outposts and on college campuses and Native American reservations. Jesuit retreat centers can be found in places ranging from New England's rocky coast to the foothills of the Rockies and the rustic trails of Santa Clara Valley. They are part of urban landscapes, too.
