History Research
An Invitation to Collaborate

We are still working to identify living descendants of the men and women who were held in bondage by Jesuits based in Missouri and southern Louisiana. Connecting with descendants is vitally important, not only because we want to help them learn more about their family history, but also because we hope to work with them to find ways to create solidarity and end racism in our communities.

The Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province is appealing to the broader community to help us in this important work. We invite descendants and scholars to join us in this important research, and through dialogue, find a path toward reconciliation. To help with identify descendants, we have created a list of shared family traits, available here

We encourage anyone who might have information to contact the Jesuit Archives & Research Center at HistoryResearch@Jesuits.org or 314-376-2440.

We will share what we learn, whether through our own research or through the wisdom of the community. We look forward to assisting descendants in learning more about their family heritage.
