Fr. Provincial Ronald Mercier, SJ, to Speak at Interfaith Prayer Service For Peace

ST. LOUIS – Most Reverend, Robert J. Carlson, Archbishop of St. Louis, will lead an interfaith prayer service for Peace and Solidarity on Tuesday, September 19, in Kiener Plaza in downtown St. Louis beginning at 3 p.m. Archbishop Carlson convened a group of faith leaders from the St. Louis area who will also speak at the event, including Fr. Ronald A. Mercier, provincial of the USA Central and Southern Province. 

Other faith leaders who will speak at the ecumenical event include: 

  • Reverend Karen Anderson, Pastor, Ward Chapel AME Church, Interfaith Partnership of Greater St. Louis
  • Rabbi James Bennett, Congregation Shaare Emeth, St Louis Rabbinical Association
  • Reverend Dr. Linden Bowie, President, Missionary Baptist State Convention
  • Reverend Dr. Cassandra Gould, Pastor, Quinn Chapel AME Church, Missouri Faith Voices
  • Pastor Trey Herweck, Refuge Church
  • Bishop Derrick Robinson, Kingdom Destiny Fellowship
  • Right Reverend George Wayne Smith, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri 
  • Mufti Asif Umar, Imam, Islamic Foundation of Greater St Louis, Imam Council of Metropolitan St. Louis

Father Art Cavitt, pastor of St. Nicholas Parish and executive director of the St. Charles Lwanga Center will host the event. The Community Gospel Choir of St. Louis will sing during the prayer service.

Fr. Provincial Ronald Mercier, SJ, joined more than a dozen leaders from a variety of faith traditions in an interfaith prayer service in St. Louis on Tuesday, Sept. 19. Working for justice to bring about peace was the prevailing theme of the day.

The people of Puerto Rico are still recovering from Hurricane Irma, and now Hurricane Maria is about to land with even more devastating force. Please join us in prayer.

Father W. Charles Heiser, SJ, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, in St. Louis. He was 95 years old, a Jesuit for 77 years and a priest for 64 years.
