Thankfully, I have been able to help people get to know Jesus Christ, and I am glad that I am a Jesuit.

50 Years a Jesuit

During my 50 years as a Jesuit, I have worked in several apostolates and have had a variety of experiences. It is difficult to say which assignment is my favorite because they have all been rewarding in one way or another. Being a high school teacher and administrator was always challenging because of the changing trends and attitudes of teenagers, and at the same time very gratifying as I watched these young men grow and mature.

Getting a doctorate in Moral Theology was not the easiest thing that I have ever undertaken, but being able to teach seminarians and also being able to serve as spiritual director to some of the seminarians was very fulfilling.

For many summers I was able to minister to the Native Americans in Wyoming. While this was not an official assignment, I will always cherish the time that I spent there. Another memorable experience for me was my tertianship experiment when I spent several months in Alaskan villages doing sacramental ministry and visiting with the people.

As a priest, I am able to bring people to the sacraments. Praying with and for them and watching their relationship with Jesus Christ grow is comforting and gives me great joy and happiness.

I love the Society of Jesus and am extremely grateful for the many wonderful experiences and opportunities I have had over these 50 years. I have gotten to know countless numbers of people and the resulting friendships we have formed are dear to me. Thankfully, I have been able to help people get to know Jesus Christ, and I am glad that I am a Jesuit.
