Slavery, History, Memory and Reconciliation Project
Connecting with Descendants

The SHMR Project is working to trace the family lineages of people held in slavery by Jesuits in the central and southern United States. We invite descendants and scholars to join us in this important research and, through a process of dialogue, find a path toward reconciliation. We will share what we learn through our own research and through the wisdom of the community.

If you think you or someone you know might be descended from the people held in slavery by Jesuits, please contact the Slavery, History, Memory and Reconciliation Project at or 314-758-7159.

Descendants will have certain commonalities in their family histories. Learn more here: Connecting with Descendants: Missouri
