Fr. Robert L. Poirier, SJ
Fr. Robert L. Poirier, SJ, 69, is a learning consultant and campus minister at St. Louis University High School, the most recent of his varied assignments. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he entered the Society of Jesus in 1966 and was ordained a priest in 1977 by Bishop John Wurm at St. Louis University High School in St. Louis. He was a teacher and pastoral director at Rockhurst High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and later served as rector. He served as both assistant principal and principal at Regis Jesuit High School in Denver. He was a parish associate at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Denver, and taught and did pastoral work at St. Ignatius College in Sydney, Australia. Following the completion of his doctorate in clinical psychology at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., (2003), he served in private practice, then as staff psychologist and assistant director in the student health and counseling center at Saint Louis University. In addition to his doctorate, Fr. Poirier has a bachelor’s in philosophy from Saint Louis University; a Master’s in English from SLU, 1971; a Master of Divinity in theology from Loyola University-Chicago, 1984; a Master’s in secondary education administration, Fordham University, 1984; and a Master’s in counseling, SLU, 1998.
